As we age, the upper lip becomes longer and thinner as the elasticity of skin decreases. Less pink shows and vertical lines appear. By performing the lip lift, which is removing skin at the base of the nose in a very specific manner, the upper lip is shortened and more pink is exposed. This returns the upper lip to a more youthful position. The goal is to have several millimeters of upper teeth showing when the lip is at rest.
The procedure can be enhanced by placing a filler material, (Restylane or Collagen), at the same time to increase the fullness or volume of the lip and treat wrinkles. Permanent fillers can also be used.
