Restylane Lyft for Younger Looking Hands

Lyft for Hands

Dr. Robert Guyette has been using  dermal fillers for years to help his patients  look younger and rejuvenized.   Recently the FDA approved Restylane Lyft to volumize the back of hands and the results have been fantastic!

Restylane  Lyft is a hyaluronic acid filler that is the first and only injectable to be approved for an area other than the face.

83% of women say they have noticed SIGNS OF AGING IN THEIR HANDS!

As we age, our hands start to look older due to the loss of collagen and elastin and our skin becomes thinner. That leads to the veins and tendons of the hands become more visible.  Being out in the sun can lead to the dark spots that we start to notice over time.  All of these issues lead people to feel like their hands are showing their true age, even if their face looks great!

Volume loss from age can be corrected!

By injecting fillers into the hands, patients notice a plumper and smoother appearance to the skin by reducing  the visibility of sagging skin and wrinkles.  People  ask “Does it hurt?” and the answer, according to the patients seen at Guyette Surgery Center is  “it does not hurt at all”!

It is time to have your hands match your face!   Dr. Robert Guyette has been helping people look and feel great with surgical procedures, such as face lifts, and eyelid surgery.  He personally performs all procedures, including fillers and Botox.   At The MediSpa at Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery, we offer a wide range of treatments, from Customized Facials to Microneedling, IPL to Laser treatments, all of which help the skin on the face, neck and décolleté to look younger and feel fantastic.

Most people forget about the others areas that show their age as well.  One of which is the hands.  With the recent approval of fillers in the hands, Dr. Guyette can truly offer a solution to the question “What can I do about my hands?”  With the combination of Restylane Lyft and the use of IPL or the CO2 laser treatments, he get your hands looking younger, smoother, and rejuvenated!  Your hands will no longer give away your age

Which Chemical Peel is Right for You?

Renew Your Complexion

At the MediSpa at Guyette Surgery, we feature the SkinMedica® Professional Peels.  We offer these services at both our Scottsdale and our Avondal locations.

The chemical peels accelerate skin exfoliation which will help your complexion appear more uniform and renewed.  A chemical peel can help diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and roughness.

The number of recommended treatments is based on your initial level of skin damage and the selected peel strength.  Results will be cumulative, which means you will see progressive, dramatic results with each additional treatment.

We, at The MediSpa at Guyette Surgery, are always asked by our patients which peel is right for them.  Here is a basic guideline for the three different peels by SkinMedica®  We offer a complimentary consultation with our aesthetician.  During this time, our aesthetician will look at your skin through a power magnifying lens to access the level of peel that would benefit your skin issues.

Chemical Peels are not for your face alone.  These peels can be used on your décolleté, your hands, and your back.

Medi-Spa Top 3 Picks for the Holidays

Medi-Spa Top 3 Picks for the Holidays | Guyette Medi-Spa, Scottsdale

The holidays are right around the corner, Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery is your little helper for the season. Our Medi-Spa offers a rich variety of procedures so you’ll look and feel your best for every upcoming event from New Year’s Eve parties to holiday photo sessions. Botox injections, dermal fillers, and chemical peels are three of our most popular procedures. Why wait until 2018 to achieve some revolutionary resolutions?

Dr. Robert Guyette specializes in both Botox and Dysport injections. The similar products offer fast and incredible results. What’s the difference between the two? They both decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by delicately stopping the movement of certain muscles such as those “angry 11’s” between your eyebrows. Botox and Dysport can also help optimize facial aesthetics by slightly increasing brow arches with the expert, temporary paralysis of muscles. However, they are manufactured by different companies.

Botox and Dysport are safe, quick, and convenient. The procedure takes less than one minute, making it an accessible lunchtime appointment for patients. However, it does take up to three weeks for full results to be achieved, so you’ll want to book your appointment now before that ugly sweater party rolls around.

Dermal Fillers

Also known as facial fillers, these fast and simple injections help you almost instantly replace facial volume that’s lost over the years. Look younger, restore self-confidence, and even help with fine lines and wrinkles that are more pronounced when we lose volume in the face. As a facial expert, Dr. Guyette personally performs every injectable treatment including dermal fillers.

To get the best results from facial fillers, you need a facial expert who’s board certified and holds both an MD and DMD. This promises consistent, premium results designed to address your unique needs and concerns. The soft filler is injected directly into the skin for a plumper, younger look. It can be used in the lips, cheeks, around the eyes or mouth, and at various additional locations throughout the face. Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery carries the latest and safest dermal fillers.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel chemically removes the top layers of skin to reveal smoother, dewier, and younger-looking skin below the surface. Enhance the texture of your face, improve the tone, and get rid of superficial wrinkles. A number of chemical peels are available, and Dr. Guyette and the Medi-Spa staff will select the best option for you and your skin. Address light acne scarring, freckles and age spots, irregular pigmentation, and even help with some pre-cancerous conditions like keratoses.

Keep in mind that chemical peels can take a few days to heal depending on initial skin condition and peel depth. It’s another appointment you’ll want to book in advance of your holiday shenanigans.

Love Your Lips

5 Tips for Beautiful Lips | Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery, Scottsdale

5 Tips for Beautiful Lips

Your lips are an important part of your body that should be treated and cared for just like everything else. Here are year-round tips to help keep your lips looking and feeling their best.

Exfoliate Your Lips. Wind, sun, cold, heat can all rob your lips of moisture. Less moisture means dry, flaky lips. You can use an exfoliating product, such as Obagi Exfoliating Cleanser to help remove the dry skin from your lips. Try using a soft toothbrush and gently rub in a circular motion along your lips to help remove the dry skin.

Moisturize Your Lips Every Day. Dry, flaky lips need moisture. Bringing the moisture back to your lips will help to minimize the wrinkles along your lips, get rid of the flakes, and make your whole face look younger. Look for products that specifically contain various oils, such as coconut, avocado, jojoba, etc. to use on your lips. A product line like Jane Iredale is great for moisturize and will protect your lips.

Stay Hydrated. Drink lots of water. Drinking water each day will keep your body hydrated which will, in turn, keep your lip moist. See what the Mayo Clinic recommends for daily water intake.

Wear Sunscreen. Lips can easily get sunburned due to the lack of melanin, which is the pigment that helps to shield your skin from the sun’s rays. You can use a sunscreen or a lip balm that has the SPF in the product. We carry the Jane Iredale Lip Drink products that have SPF 15 in them.

Plump Lips. Use an injectable filler, such as Juvederm, to plump your lips. We offer several injectable products that Dr. Guyette can use to help define the border of the lips and fill in the vertical lines around the lips. Your lips will look fuller, and more defined which will make your whole face look younger. At Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery, we offer IV Sedation or Nitrous Oxide at a discounted fee, to allow for painless injections of the fillers.

What’s the big deal with collagen?

What's the big deal with collagen? | Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery, Scottsdale

Collagen is a structural protein found throughout the body and one of the single most important biological components when it comes to facial contours. Collagen provides a kind of scaffolding, and for the skin, makes it appear full and youthful. The collagen found in skin gives the face volume and, for children, gives that “squeezable” appearance. As we age, however, our body’s ability to naturally produce collagen is diminished. This is why our cheeks aren’t as plump, necks aren’t as taught, eyelids being to droop, and jaw lines begin to fall. The collagen decline starts around the mid to late 20’s and on average by age 30 we lose 1% dermal collagen annually.

Lose collagen? Yes, we “lose” collagen in a manner of speaking. When we age preexisting collagen becomes old and brittle and our bodies cannot replace this “old” collagen quickly enough. Thus, with a decline in collagen production and a “breaking down” of existing collagen, we begin to see the telltale signs of aging through lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. The aging process is inevitable, but don’t despair quite yet because there are proven treatments to combat this decline.

First and foremost our environment, lifestyle and genetics will influence the speed of collagen decline and the appearance of age. So by taking simple measures in our daily lives to slow down the dreaded collagen decline we can effectively maintain a youthful appearance. Let’s start with the easiest ways to maintain healthy collagen and methods of how to slow down aging concerns.

Avoid sun exposure! The sun is a wonderful thing, but too much will rapidly age you. The collagen killing effect of the sun is a major contributor to why you may or may not show your chronological age. So by wearing daily SPF, you can reduce the harmful effects of the sun and save your collagen from unneeded stress. If you smoke, STOP smoking! Smoking has many potential health risks but the chemicals found in cigarettes, cigars, and other smoking methods will deplete the body of vitamin “C” and vitamin “C” is an integral component to healthy collagen formation. Eat a healthy balanced diet! The best way to ensure a properly functioning body is to feed yourself with nutrient-dense foods that will energize every structure in the body, including your skin.

You already follow all of the above and still have concerns that the sands of time are marching across your face? There is still hope with modern science, a balance between non-invasive professional procedures and targeted at home skincare product! When it comes to in-office treatments, there are many choices, but exfoliation and fibroblast stimulation are key. Exfoliation removes the outer layers of the skin and is important since aging slows down cellular turnover which can lead to lines, wrinkles, dehydration, and the appearance of weathered skin. Exfoliation methods such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion indirectly stimulate deeper cellular activity and increase collagen production, thereby improving the appearance, health and condition of the skin.

However, more advanced techniques like Laser Genesis and Microneedling can improve more severe aging concerns by directly stimulating the collagen factory (fibroblasts) of the skin. Laser Genesis harnesses the reparative power of deep thermal therapy and “forces” the body to manufacture more collagen. The feeling of this treatment is similar to basking in the warm afternoon sun and may leave you rosy for a few hours following your treatment. Laser Genesis requires zero downtime and is ideal for patients with busy schedules or preexisting conditions such as keloid scaring. A series of 4-6 Laser Genesis treatments progressively increases your natural collagen production and returns a smoother, more youthful appearance. Microneedling is a different method to achieve collagen stimulation and often provides more immediate results. In this procedure patients are first prepped with a light topical anesthetic and once patient comfort is established treatment is administered. Microneedling involves a pen-like medical device that holds a sterile cartridge containing 9 micro fine pins. The physical penetration of these pins into the skin releases growth factors and these growth factors “turn on” the collagen factory. This technique is customized to the condition of your skin by strategically controlling the depth of the penetration. Immediately following treatment, there is redness resembling sunburn and often lasts for about 3 days. Series of 3-4 Microneedling procedures are recommended for optimal results and require little to no downtime.

No time for professional treatment? Not to worry! Home care products are a must for the daily management of aging concerns. What to look for? Home skincare products that are highly concentrated with peptides, growth factors, and antioxidants. Home care containing these ingredients will provide support to the skin while stimulating natural, healthy collagen production.

With so many options out there today, the best approach to age management and collagen stimulation is a combination of therapies. The best way to determine your treatment plan is by having a consult with a licensed esthetician. This is particularly true if your esthetician practices within a physician’s office since they have access to treatments and products reserved specifically for medical doctors. It is never too late to start your treatment but easiest to prevent severe aging before it happens by consulting with your skincare professional today!

Cosmetic Laser procedures and The Guyette Difference

Cosmetic Laser Procedures | Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery, Scottsdale

Recently, there has been some controversy surrounding the safety of cosmetic laser treatments, as mentioned in the Arizona Republic article “Cosmetic Care Via Laser Can Be Risky” on Sunday October 12, 2014 (link to article). This article discusses whether our patients should be concerned about a possible personal injury from energy-based procedures (i.e. Laser Vein Reduction, Laser Hair reduction, IPL, etc). Personal injury risks can vary but the primary danger associated with Laser treatments is damage to the eyes that can lead to vision impairment. This danger is easily mitigated by proper use of safety eyewear, for the patient and laser technician, therefore minimizing risk of eye damage and/or impaired vision.

So what should patients be concerned about when it comes to cosmetic laser treatments and their personal safety? The most common risk associated with laser procedures is burning of the skin that can lead to permanent scars and hypo-pigmentation (permanently lightening to the skin). Anytime you consult someone for laser treatments or any energy based modality, there are potential risks that should be discussed with you by your provider prior to treatment. If the potential risk has not been brought to your attention and you have not been consulted about your treatment options, this could be an indication that that facility is not your best choice and may harm you.

With so many laser clinics saturating the Arizona market today here are some key factors to consider when seeking a provider for your laser treatments. First and foremost look for a Cosmetic Laser Technician who carries a certification that has been accredited by the Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency. What does this mean for you? You can be certain that the individual providing your laser treatment has at the very least participated in a 40 hour didactic and Laser Safety Officer course followed by no less than 48 hours of hands on experience with 2 different laser systems.

Patients can further reduce personal injury risk if the laser service and/or energy based modality is performed within a medical facility. Laser services provided within a medical facility, while a physician is in office, ensure the most comprehensive care and highest personal safety if there were any unforeseen complications to arise while you are being treated. For instance, Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery is a fully licensed medical facility and overseen by Dr. Robert Guyette, a double degree Oral Maxillofacial surgeon. Extensive training is required of the Guyette MediSpa staff and this ensures patient confidence when seeking any type of treatment but especially laser services. The Doctors expertise in facial rejuvenation coupled with close supervision of his Cosmetic Laser Techs yields a proven track record reflected in the highest patient satisfaction with the laser procedures performed in an office.

We welcome you to explore the many advanced treatments offered in the Guyette MediSpa as well as the Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery Center. Book your consultation today with our team to discuss with you any goals or concerns that you have. Then we will develop a personalized treatment plan, which is essential to achieving your best results!

Medi Spa and the IPL Procedure

Medi Spa and the IPL Procedure | Guyette Facial & Oral Surgery, Scottsdale

Many people think that the only way to reduce wrinkles and look their absolute youngest is to undergo cosmetic surgery. While yes, surgery can work wonders for people who want to look their youngest, there are many other options out there as well. In fact, we have a special Medi Spa at our practice that can work wonders for patients without the use of any invasive surgical procedures.

When you meet with our Scottsdale oral surgeon and cosmetic surgeon, you’ll be able to learn about the Medi Spa in greater detail. For now, we’d like to look at the Medi Spa in basic terms and go over one of the most popular Medi Spa treatments: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial therapy.

What is a Medi Spa, exactly?

Our Medi Spa is a state-of-the-art skin care and skin rejuvenation center that uses the latest in non-surgical aesthetic enhancement techniques. Rather than undergoing full surgery, our Avondale and Scottsdale facial and oral surgeon may recommend one of our many Media Spa treatments to help you look your absolute best.

Best Candidates for Medi Spa Treatment

The best candidates for advanced skin care and aesthetic enhancement at our Medi Spa are people who would like to look their youngest without having to undergo an invasive surgical procedure. These patients should be in generally good health and have realistic expectations about what the Medi Spa treatments involve and what they can achieve.

Let’s now turn our focus away from the Medi Spa in general and zoom in on IPL, one of the more popular Medi Spa procedures we offer.

About Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

IPL is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation therapy that introduces intense pulses of light to the lower layers of the skin. This helps eliminate skin blemishes on the surface of the skin while encouraging the growth of new collagen as well.

IPL is able to address the following skin problems:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Facial veins
  • Acne blemishes
  • Redness from rosacea
  • Sun damage
  • Birthmarks
  • Hyperpigmentation

Is intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy right for me?

A number of factors will be taken into account in order to determine if IPL-Photofacial is ideal for you. In general, good candidates for IPL are people of lighter skin and complexion. Those with tanned or darker skin can sometimes experience changes in their skin pigmentation after an IPL treatment. Women who are pregnant and people taking the acne medication Accutane should not undergo IPL treatment until advised by their skin care professional that it is okay.

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Procedure

During the IPL procedure, patients are given dark glasses to wear that will protect their eyes from potential exposure to the light. A cold gel is applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. The IPL handpiece is then placed to the patient’s skin to deliver the pulses of light. Patients may experience a slight pinch periodically, similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. The treatment will last anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour.

Other Great Anti-Aging Options

While IPL has proven quite effective for many patients over the years, sometimes this minimally invasive option will not be the best for the patient’s needs. In such cases, Scottsdale facial surgery or other kinds of skin rejuvenation options will be considered. All options can be discussed in greater detail when you stop by for a consultation.
